National and Provincial Standards
Accreditation
The Algonquin Nursing Home is a long term care facility, licensed under the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and accredited by the Accreditation Canada. Accreditation compares Algonquin to national standards. Long term care facilities are rated similar to hotel star ratings. A three year accreditation is the best, a one year accreditation means that although minimum standards are met, there is room for improvement. Algonquin Nursing Home’s last accreditation was for three years. The staff, residents, their families and members of the community participated in the year long process to get ready for accreditation. Accreditation is a voluntary process, being up to the management of the home to decide whether they want it or not. The co-founder, Mrs. Monestime, believed it was important for the residents and their families to know how Algonquin compares to other homes. Through the process, the staff and residents are ensured that they meet the national standards. This helps people realize that Algonquin is “A Place Called Home”. |
