A New Resident
Moving In
For many elderly people the thought of moving to a nursing home can be very frightening. They will be leaving behind all that is familiar to them and adjusting to a new environment may be difficult. They might feel that they are not ready to move, but their family and doctor feel it is the best thing for them.
At Algonquin the staff helps you adjust by making you feel special. They take their time with you, and never make you feel rushed. The staff looks after your needs by providing you with good quality care. The nursing home provides special time and training to the staff on how to introduce a new resident to Algonquin.
When you first arrive, one of the staff members will introduce herself to you. She will explain to you what to expect for the rest of the day and take you to your room. Along the way she will introduce you to other residents and point out the dining room and lounge.
When you get to our room, she will introduce you to your roommate and help you get settled. The staff member becomes your friend, and you feel like you have met someone who cares. She comes to visit you often during the next few days to make sure you are okay and see if you need anything.
This special attention to the new resident makes them feel at home and helps them adjust to the new surroundings. You become part of the family because Algonquin is “A Place Called Home”. |
