Room Temperature
Cosy and Warm
Being cold is not uncommon in elderly people. Part of the reason for this is the person’s inability to generate and conserve heat. Older people are more sensitive to heat loss, especially through their hands, feet and head.
Being cold sometimes makes it difficult to sleep. Hot water bottles can be used to warm up beds just before bedtime. Older people can also wear sleeping caps or leg warmers to bed. Extra light weight blankets can help keep them warm too.
Staying warm at Algonquin is not a problem for the residents. Each room has its own thermostat and can be adjusted to suit individual needs. All the rooms are kept at a minimum of 72 degrees.
The nursing home’s gas-heated hot water heating system provides even, moist heat throughout the building. The dining room, living room and activity rooms are air-conditioned. This makes the building comfortable summer and winter.
This feeling of being warm and cozy makes you feel like you are at home: at Algonquin “A Place Called Home”.
