    Everyone needs to be involved with something and keep busy. That is why the Algonquin Nursing Home provides a recreational program for their residents. These programs help meet their social, emotional and physical needs. A life enrichment co-ordinator organizes all of them.

    Residents can get involved in a number of different activities ranging from cards, crafts, bingos, shopping trips and sing songs. Numerous volunteers and organizations from the community come in to help out.

    Programs are offered each day of the week. Some are for large groups, others for individuals. Some are within the home, others are outside in the community. There is so much to choose from that residents may find that they are too busy! School groups also come in on a weekly basis and play games and visit with the residents.

    The staff encourage all the residents to get involved. Some may be reluctant to participate but the staff try to get them involved by asking them to come and help. Family members are always welcome to get involved. A calendar of events is posted in the lounge area to let everyone know what is going on.

    Everyone likes to look forward to something and the residents have lots of activities to look forward to. It’s what helps make Algonquin “A Place Called Home”.
